Love Veg launches program for Latino Americans looking to try plant-based

Animal Equality's Love Veg program launched Love Veg Latino—a space where plant-based eating meets Latino culture and flavors. The site offers delicious Latin American recipes and Spanish resources about plant-based eating. Those who join the Love Veg Latino community receive a free e-cookbook and expert coaching emails to inspire their journey.

Animal Equality - Italy

A bold action to expose the killing of male chicks

Animal Equality Italia carried out a large-scale projection on the Colosseum in Rome to highlight a little-known yet widespread practice in the egg industry: the mass killing of male chicks. Every year, millions of newborn male chicks are slaughtered shortly after hatching because they are considered unprofitable—they cannot lay eggs, and their breed is not suited for meat production. The projection was part of a campaign urging the government to enforce a law that would ban this practice in Italy by 2026. The messages were directed at key decision-makers responsible for implementing this regulation. This action is just the beginning of a campaign that promises to be both impactful and unforgettable.

The event gained significant media coverage across radio, TV, online, and print outlets, further amplifying the urgency of this issue. Additionally, our efforts have reached the Italian Parliament, where a recent intervention will soon be followed by an oral question, keeping the pressure on decision-makers.

This marked the first time an animal protection organization had projected such a message onto the Colosseum, aiming to bring public awareness to an issue that remains largely hidden from view.
 

Animal Equality - Mexico

Love Veg Mexico launches textured vegetable protein campaign

Animal Equality's Love Veg program launches the "All About Soy" campaign, offering nutritional information about Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) and a 10-recipe cookbook. It has been covered in major media outlets, such as El Universal. 

Animal Equality begins work on Mexico's first animal protection law

Following constitutional reforms approved in December 2024, Congress has started its Regular Session, during which it must develop the country's first Animal Protection Law. Animal Equality is already working closely with authorities to support the creation of this historic legislation.

 

Animal Equality - Germany

Animal welfare must be included in the coalition agreement

Our new campaign ‘Tierschutz ist nicht verhandelbar’ (‘Animal welfare is non-negotiable’) is in full swing. We have already reached well over 100,000 people, hundreds have taken part in our photo campaign and thousands have signed our petition. Germany has voted, and it will probably be a challenging few years for animal welfare. This makes it all the more important that we now actively stand up for animals and demand long due improvements. We are campaigning for animal welfare to be included in the coalition agreement and for concrete measures to protect animals to be implemented.

50 Euros extra for every new monthly donation

For the first 100 new supporting memberships of 20 Euros or more, we will receive an additional 50 Euros each. An activist and supporter of Animal Equality in Germany from the very beginning, who has been active in the animal rights movement for many years and has also organised major pioneering campaigns himself, is making this very special fundraising campaign possible for us.

 

Animal Equality - UK

Government supports Animal Equality’s call for farms to be licensed, resulting in more inspections and greater transparency 

The UK Government’s Animal Sentience Committee released a damning report calling for increased enforcement of animal protection laws in UK farms. Animal Equality has been calling for a crackdown to end systemic non-compliance on farms for years. In 2022, we presented in Parliament a first-of-its-kind report co-authored alongside The Animal Law Foundation (which has since published updated data, see here, and whose work on this issue was referenced directly by the ASC in its formal report). Our data showed that fewer than 3% of the UK's 300k farms are inspected on average each year, just 50% of welfare complaints led to inspections, and a mere 0.33% of inspections led to a prosecution. In October 2024, Animal Equality commissioned the Social Market Foundation to produce a detailed report to determine how the Government can begin to address this serious issue. Many of our proposals have now been echoed by the ASC, such as: introducing a farm licensing scheme (resulting in increased inspections), a recommendation we put forward after receiving expert advice from law firm Advocates for Animals; centralised responsibility for enforcement; heightened transparency around farm inspections; and increased penalties.


Sounding the alarm for a foie gras import ban

Alongside Animal Policy International, we drew attention publicly to the UK Government’s EU-UK ‘Common Veterinary Agreement’ via the Guardian, arguing that without necessary carve-outs a foie gras import ban (alongside other lower welfare import bans) would be impossible. Concerningly, Ministers refused to comment. In response, Animal Equality took to the streets of Croydon, speaking with Government Minister Steve Reed’s constituents to get their take on the issue.
 

Landmark case to stop UK’s first onshore RAS salmon farm sees final hearing

Animal Equality was granted a judicial review against NE Lincolnshire Council after planning members approved the UK’s first fully onshore salmon farm and deliberately disregarded animal welfare as a possible material land use consideration. Represented by Advocates for Animals and Alex Shattock of Landmark Chambers, we put forward a strong case in our final hearing on 12th February, and now await the final judgement.

 

Animal Equality - Spain

Sanction proceedings initiated against AGRA PUR SL farm

Following Animal Equality's investigation, the Government of Aragón has initiated sanction proceedings against the AGRA PUR SL pig farm in Zaragoza. Authorities confirmed multiple violations of animal protection and biosecurity regulations at the facility. These infractions could result in fines of up to €100,000 for the most serious offenses, including animal abandonment and inadequate welfare monitoring.

Animal Equality - Brazil 

Male chick culling company pledge secured

With the support of the Animal Equality team, Accor Hotels committed to ban male chick culling from their supply chain in Latin America. We started the negotiations in 2023  and they were very open to the idea from the very beginning. As their headquarters is in France, where male chicken culling is not legal anymore, they wanted to expand this policy for their global operations. Accord  published the policy for the Americas & the Caribbean, and the impact on these operations will be of 3,053,379 male chicks spared. In Brazil alone, they will impact around 1,548,000 male chicks. The policy was published in December, but we were informed only in January.
