By Animal Equality @ 2025-08-29T16:27 (+1)
Hello everyone! Here you can find the August updates from Animal Equality. We hope that you find it helpful and inspiring. We also include our current job openings. Thank you!
Latin America
We launched our first investigation in Argentina. Using the voice of actor and activist Kiki Petrone, we exposed two slaughterhouses. We filed complaints for animal abuse, aiming to set a precedent in a country at a critical turning point toward intensive animal farming. We also released a Love Veg cookbook featuring traditional Argentine recipes.
U.S.
Animal Equality continued pressuring global food conglomerate Ahold Delhaize over its use of cages, protesting in the Netherlands as executives of the company welcomed a new board member. Our global campaign against Marriott International is growing, with protests in the U.S, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and the UK. We also joined the opposition to the Save Our Bacon Act, which threatens to overturn key animal protection laws in the U.S.

Brazil
Animal Equality met with Minister Sônia Guajajara, calling for debate at COP-30 on the EU-Mercosur trade deal’s impact on farmed animals; urged MasterChef Brazil to ban foie gras in the competition; and was featured by Reporter Brasil in an exposé on Brazil’s controversial Self-Control Law.
Mexico
Animal Equality in Mexico was a finalist for the 2025 Best NGOs Awards for governance and accountability; and Love Veg continued offering workshops at community centers in Guadalajara to inspire plant-based eating.
UK
In collaboration with Michelin-starred chef, Alexis Gauthier, we released a fine-dining, plant-based, six course tasting menu cookbook - with video tutorials to match! The world’s biggest salmon farming company, Mowi, has stopped its use of lumpfish as ‘cleanerfish’ (used to eat the lice off of farmed salmon) in Scottish farms, following an Animal Equality discovery revealing that 135,000 lumpfish died on a Mowi farm following violent industry treatments. We revealed that trade talks may block progress on Labour’s promised foie gras import ban, and we also released an investigation revealing farmed trout being trodden on, left to suffocate, and beaten to death by members of the public; our exposé was the top read UK news article in the Guardian and sparked calls for species-specific slaughter legislation to be enacted for farmed fish. We also highlighted critical data gaps in trout mortality reporting, after learning of an increase in highly infectious diseases on trout farms over recent years.

Italy
We protested Health Minister Orazio Schillaci for failing to enforce the ban on male chick killing. Although the law passed, the lack of implementation guidelines puts millions of chicks at risk.
Germany
We distributed thousands of leaflets near ALDI Süd’s headquarters, exposing cruel conditions at its U.S. suppliers. We also urged the federal government to appoint a neutral Animal Welfare Commissioner, following concerns about the current nominee’s industry ties.
