Ready to help drive transformative change in animal welfare and food systems? Become our new US Philanthropy Manager!
We’re recruiting for a dynamic and creative, US Philanthropy Manager to join our Global Fundraising Team. In this key role, you’ll cultivate major donor relationships, secure essential funds, and expand our donor network to support our mission to end factory farming.
Compassion in World Farming was founded in 1967 by a British farmer horrified by the development of intensive factory farming. Compassion has since become one of the leading farmed animal welfare advocates. In 2012, we established Compassion in World Farming, Inc. to focus on making positive change for farmed animals in the US, the epicentre of modern industrial agriculture.
Our global approach involves campaigning, advocacy and engagement with policymakers at national, intergovernmental, and corporate levels, building a movement of individuals concerned about animal welfare and the health and sustainability of our food. We are driven by a passion for animal welfare and food system change, believing in a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect, and where sustainable farming practices prevail for a healthy planet.
Our international headquarters are in Godalming (UK), with team members in 14 countries including the US, Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, China, and a specialist policy office in Brussels. This role is part of the Global Fundraising Directorate of over 50 staff, consisting of Philanthropy, Individual Giving, Legacies, Digital, CRM and Brand teams, based internationally, primarily in the UK (HQ) and our six other fundraising markets in the USA and Europe.
Location: Remote in the US (Preference for the Northeast)
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Department: Global Fundraising Team
Salary: $75,000-$80,000 (Dependant on skills and experience)
About the Role:
Your primary focus will be building and managing relationships with major donors and high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) contributing $10,000 to $50,000. You will also oversee the Circle of Compassion Program for donors giving $1,000 to $10,000 and secure planned giving commitments. You’ll provide exceptional stewardship through creative, personalised communications and work on identifying new donor prospects to drive revenue growth.
Additionally, you'll manage logistics for donor events, both in-person and online, to cultivate relationships and expand our presence in the US. Collaboration with global teams, including Individual Giving, Global Philanthropy, Finance, and program teams, will be essential to align fundraising efforts. You’ll also contribute to donor communications, proposal writing, and stewardship reports while maintaining accurate donor records using Salesforce. Reporting to the US Director of Philanthropy, you'll work with a supportive team of three in the US and a broader team of 12 in the UK and Europe.
About You:
To succeed in this role, you’ll need substantial experience in philanthropic fundraising, particularly with major donors, HNWIs, and family foundations, and a proven track record securing gifts of $25,000+. Key skills include building strong relationships, managing a diverse donor portfolio, and identifying new opportunities.
Thriving in this role will depend on your ability to secure gifts from new, as yet unidentified prospects and maximizing the support of our Global Senior Prospect Research Manager. Excellent communication skills, experience in crafting proposals, and a creative approach to event planning are essential.
A passion for animal welfare or environmental issues is a plus, and experience with event management and CRM systems like Salesforce are valuable.
Why You Should Apply:
This is a unique opportunity to impact Compassion’s global mission to end factory farming. As the US Philanthropy Manager, you'll build relationships with major donors and secure crucial funds, supporting transformative animal welfare and sustainable food initiatives.
