OVERVIEW
Aquatic Life Institute (ALI) is seeking a strategic and persuasive leader with proven experience in corporate engagement, a deep understanding of the seafood supply chain and animal welfare, and the ability to build partnerships and drive measurable impact through collaboration and data-driven advocacy.
Reporting to ALI’s Managing Director, the Head of Corporate Engagement will develop and execute strategies to engage major corporations and retailers, driving commitments to eliminate cruel aquaculture and fishery practices from their supply chains. ALI takes a “solutions broker” approach to corporate engagement, and this role will need to build strong positive and trusting relationships with corporate representatives and industry stakeholders.
WHO WE ARE
Aquatic Life Institute (ALI), is a US-based nonprofit organization with an international reach, striving to alleviate suffering for trillions of aquatic animals farmed and caught in the global seafood system. We achieve this by advocating for improved seafood certification standards, influencing corporate practices, and shaping government policies.
Our interventions are identified and executed according to one or more of the following principles:
Reduce the number of animals in, or remove animals from, the seafood system and its supply chain.
Refine the conditions in which animals are currently kept or captured in the seafood system and its supply chain.
Replace animal products with sustainable plant-based or cell-based alternatives to the extent possible in the seafood system and its supply chain.
Reject the introduction of additional animals into the seafood system and its supply chain.
We are a fully remote team, with staff distributed around the globe.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As ALI’s Head of Corporate Engagement, you’ll play a vital role in advancing aquatic animal welfare through your work in the following areas:
- Corporate Engagement Strategy: Lead the development and execution of effective strategies for working with major corporate stakeholders to secure and fulfill commitments to eliminating the cruelest aquaculture/fishery practices from their supply chains.
- Outreach Management: In alignment with the high-level strategy – identify, research, and engage in productive dialogue with industry decision makers.
- Network Building: Build and maintain positive relationships with seafood producers, industry representatives, key corporate executives, and fellow NGOs, attending both in-person and online meetings and delivering presentations to socialize aquatic animal welfare priorities.
- Measuring Impact: Systematically collect qualitative and quantitative data, including interim progress with companies as well as “final victories” like corporate policy changes and implementation. Use findings to refine strategies, optimize campaign performance, and identify new opportunities for improving aquatic animal welfare.
WHO YOU ARE
To be successful in this position, you will have:
- Proven experience in corporate engagement, advocacy, or campaigning work, with a results orientation – track record of achievement and producing measurable results, persevering despite obstacles.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills, with experience representing an organization externally. Excellent written and oral communication.
- Strong alignment with ALI’s mission to advance the welfare of aquatic animals.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a track record of influencing stakeholders, and comfort using a “good cop” collaborative approach.
- Proven ability to navigate challenges with tenacity and resourcefulness, creatively navigating challenges in dynamic and complex environments.
- Cultural competency: Ability to collaborate across diverse teams, including with NGOs and corporate partners located in different parts of the world. Experience working with international teams or cross-cultural contexts.
If you were here right now, at the time of this job posting, you would be:
- Mapping out 2025 OKR implementation plans for the corporate engagement program, aligned with ALI’s theory of change.
- Developing tailored action plans for top-priority corporate targets based on their current practices and potential for impact.
- Conducting research on a target company’s supply chain, existing animal welfare policies, and sustainability goals to identify leverage points for engagement.
- Updating CRM with notes and progress from recent industry engagements.
