Help transform billions of lives. Including yours.
Compassion in World Farming International is a leading global farm animal welfare organisation campaigning to bring an end to factory farming and to implement the highest animal welfare standards in Europe and beyond. We lead a growing worldwide movement of people concerned about how industrial agriculture mistreats animals, wastes precious resources and utterly fails to meet the needs of the planet’s inhabitants.
About us
With headquarters in the UK and offices in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and the USA, we are the leading animal environmental organisation working towards a nature positive, compassionate and free of animal cruelty world. Our campaigns focus on fixing the broken food system, ending factory farming, and delivering a world that is nature positive for animals, people and planet. Our supporters and partners throughout the world help us deliver on our mission.
About the role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Research Manager to join our dynamic Aquatic Animal Welfare Programme. This role is crucial in supporting and advancing CIWF’s mission to raise awareness and improve welfare standards for aquatic animals within the global food system.
You will lead and manage research projects, develop technical resources, and collaborate with various stakeholders, including NGOs, academics, and policymakers. You will also represent CIWF at high-level meetings, conferences, and in the media, advocating for the welfare of aquatic animals and the improved environmental impact of aquaculture and fisheries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing research and technical resources to aid campaigns and policy work on aquatic animal welfare.
- Communicating Compassion’s vision for aquatic animals with various stakeholders, including representing the organization at high level meetings, conferences and other events.
- Contributing and developing to discrete projects (such as, but not limited to, investigations, research, resource development, report writing, briefings, governmental consultation responses and evaluation), individually and in partnership with organisational colleagues, external organisations and consultants.
- Responding to external stakeholder inquiries by providing well-researched information, expert advice, and data-driven insights on aquatic animal welfare and production systems.
Our ideal candidate will hold a degree in a relevant field, such as aquaculture, fish welfare, zoology, or marine science, and have a solid background in scientific research related to food systems or farming. You will have a deep understanding of animal welfare, particularly in the context of aquatic animals, and excel at communicating complex information to a wide range of audiences. You’ll be highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, and adept at prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines. You will naturally build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including academics, NGOs, and policy groups. While an advanced degree and experience in aquaculture or fisheries are advantageous, your proactive, adaptable attitude and commitment to animal welfare are what truly set you apart.
Why Join Us?
At CIWF, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the welfare of aquatic animals globally. We offer a supportive and inclusive working environment, where your expertise and passion will help shape the future of compassionate farming.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have sound knowledge gained in a similar position with a proven track record of leading and implementing a successful campaign along with a good knowledge of EU political institutions. It is also desirable that you have a knowledge of aquatic animal welfare issues. Strong organisational skills and good attention to detail are also key requirements for this position.
Compassion in World Farming International is absolutely committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their background. We value diversity and lived experience, and acknowledge the underrepresentation of people from certain backgrounds, both within our organisation and across the sector. We welcome applications from underrepresented groups, whether these be of ethnicity, gender, identity, religion, physical ability, sexual orientation or other.
